It seems like health insurance in the United States is constantly changing. With all the changes taking place in the last few years, you may be concerned about your ability to enroll. A lot of people don’t even know if or when there will be an Open Enrollment Period. In fact, 76% of Americans didn’t know the dates for Open Enrollment in 2018 and the confusion continues.

Although some details of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are different now, you don’t have to fret–there will still be an Open Enrollment Period so you can get the coverage you need.

Open Enrollment 2019 Dates

The
enrollment period in California is different than the federal enrollment period. This is because California runs its own exchange rather than partaking in the federal marketplace. For Covered California plans, Open Enrollment starts on Oct. 15 and ends on Jan. 15., 2019. For states that operate under the federal rules, the period is only from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15.

Gather Important Documents Now

Shopping for health insurance can be stressful, so it’s better to prepare yourself sooner rather than later. Health insurance providers require personal details during the application process. You may need the following information:

  • Details about dependents
  • Social Security Number
  • Tax filing information
  • Income and employer for household members
  • Home address
  • Mailing address (if different from home address)
  • Current insurance details (if applicable)
  • Immigration documentation (if applicable)

However, you should know that some insurance companies may ask for additional information.

Research Coverage Options

You can get through the enrollment process faster and with less stress if you have an idea of what you want before you start. There’s no reason to scramble when enrollment begins when you can get ahead of the game now. Start learning about
