Vision insurance
As long as your eyes are working fine, you probably don't pay them much attention. However, many problems begin as asymptomatic, which is why it is so crucial to get routine eye exams. National Eye Exam Month is August, so if it has been a while since a professional examined your vision, do so soon.

Why Are Eye Exams Important?

You should get an eye exam at least once a year. The reason is to detect eye health problems before they get more severe. These tests will also determine whether you could benefit from prescription eyeglasses or contacts. The eyes can also be used an indicators for a person’s overall health, so your optometrist may recommend a visit to your doctor if something is found.

Who Needs Their Eyes Examined?

Everyone needs to get their eyes checked regularly. Even small children can benefit. For example, if a child is doing poorly in school, then the reason might be due to poor vision. A child may have trouble reading books and what is written on the blackboard, so make sure to take your kid to an eye doctor regularly. These routine eye exams need to continue into adulthood because vision problems are more likely to develop as they get older.

What Is the Optometrist Observing?

Your eye doctor checks for any and all vision problems that might be present. Some of the more common ones include astigmatism, farsightedness and nearsightedness. However, there are plenty of other conditions that need to be checked for such as:
  • Diabetic eye disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Strabismus
  • Amblyopia
  • High blood pressure

Eye exams are covered by most forms of vision insurance. If you get your insurance through your employee benefits, check with your employer to see how much can be done. In the event your work does not offer it, you need to acquire individual insurance. Sackett & Associates can help you find the perfect insurance plan for your needs.
